What My 20-Month-Old Son Taught Me About Winning in Life and Ayurveda

How Little Raajavandit's Natural Instincts Can Help You Build an Unstoppable Ayurvedic Career

We often look to books, gurus, and life coaches for inspiration. But sometimes, the most powerful lessons come from the smallest teachers—especially when they’re still discovering the world with unfiltered curiosity and fearless intent.

My son, Raajavandit, is just about 20 months young. And yet, every day, by simply being his authentic self, he teaches me more about success, grit, and emotional intelligence than most self-help books ever could.

As an Ayurveda doctor and educator working closely with hundreds of young Ayurvedic professionals, I often see brilliant minds getting stuck—not because they lack knowledge, but because they forget their innate human instincts to thrive. Observing Raajavandit made me realize that the very qualities we need to build a fulfilling and successful Ayurvedic career are already hardwired in us… but sadly, we forget them as we grow.

Here are three life-changing lessons I learned from my son—lessons that could transform your journey as an Ayurpreneur if you choose to reconnect with them.

1. Go For It – Without Overthinking the Fall

One morning, I saw Raajavandit eyeing an object placed well beyond his reach. Without hesitation, he began climbing, stacking whatever he could—sofas, bins, stools—to reach it. He didn’t stop to calculate the risk. He didn’t look around to seek permission. He didn’t worry about whether someone would laugh at him if he failed. He just went for it.

Yes, he fell. Yes, he cried. But what struck me was this: within moments, he forgot the pain and went back to the mission as if nothing had happened. Try distracting him, lifting him away, scolding him—he’d still find his way back, like a black ant returning to the same trail after being swept aside.

And it hit me.

At some point, we were all like Raajavandit.

We chased what we wanted without fear of falling, ridicule, or rejection. We kept going until we got it. Then life happened. The school system told us to wait for instructions. Society asked us to “be realistic.” Family told us not to dream too big. And slowly, our inborn relentless pursuit of dreams became dormant.

As Ayurveda doctors, many of us want to create clinics, launch online courses, write books, or become speakers. But we stop ourselves. We overthink, procrastinate, and surrender to the "what ifs."

What if we could go back to the mindset of our inner child? To chase our purpose like Raajavandit chases his goals?

Ayurvedic Lesson:

Remember, Purushartha—our ancient concept—encourages us to pursue Dharma (purpose), Artha (wealth), Kama (desire), and Moksha (liberation). But pursuit requires effort, not just intention. The first step to success is having the courage to go for it.

2. Step Back – Pause Before You Break

There are moments when I shout at Raajavandit—especially when he gets stubborn or does something risky. What he does in return amazed me.

He doesn’t scream back. He doesn’t fight. He just pauses.

He looks at the floor. Puts his hand over his nose. Peeks at my face cautiously. Assesses my tone. Then… slowly, he gives a little smile.

That’s it.

He simply steps back to assess the situation.

How many of us do that when things don’t go our way? Most Ayurveda professionals I meet either push blindly against resistance or completely give up. Very few pause to observe and rethink their strategy.

Stepping back isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom.
It allows space for clarity. It gives you time to switch gears. It’s a moment of stillness before the next step forward.

So whether your Ayurveda clinic isn’t growing, your YouTube channel is stuck, or your online consultation bookings are low—step back like Raajavandit. Observe. Reset. Then re-engage.

Ayurvedic Lesson:

Our classics recommend Shamana (pacification) before Shodhana (purification). Why? Because sometimes, calming the storm is more powerful than fighting it. Learn to pause. It’s part of the healing.

3. Persuasion – Without the Ego

Once the storm is calm, Raajavandit does something even more beautiful.

He uses persuasion.

He gives me that little grin. Maybe a tiny laugh. A slow approach with arms extended. No words—just pure emotion. He wins me over. Every time.

It made me think: How many dreams fail not because they’re too ambitious, but because we’re too proud to ask?

We avoid reaching out to mentors, collaborators, investors, or patients because our ego gets in the way. We fear rejection more than we desire success.

But persuasion is a skill rooted in empathy, clarity, and connection. It’s not manipulation. It’s an honest expression of your intention.

If Raajavandit can master it before he can speak clearly, what’s stopping us?

As an Ayurpreneur, persuasion is your power—whether it’s convincing someone to try your herbal formulation, attend your webinar, or enrol in your course. Don’t silence this natural gift. Use it—with humility.

Ayurvedic Lesson:

Charaka says, “Vidyarthi Lakshanaani”—a seeker must be humble, inquisitive, and persistent. Ego is the disease. Persuasion is the medicine.

Final Words from a Father and Fellow Ayurvedic Dreamer

Every day, little Raajavandit teaches me what I had forgotten—to live by my nature, not my conditioning.

His three lessons:

✅ Go for it – without overthinking failure

✅ Step back – pause, observe, adjust

✅ Persuade – ask with heart, not with ego

These are not just parenting reflections. These are timeless life strategies—especially for Ayurveda doctors trying to create a meaningful, sustainable, and impactful career.

Don’t let the system suppress your spirit.

Don’t let rejection shape your future.

Don’t let fear of failure bury your dreams.
